Schools for Citizens:
Preserving the Republic
Although I have always know that getting our schools they way they are today must have been a difficult process, after reading this article I really know all it took to have the established educational system we have today. There were so many different elements that went into making the school system the way that it is such as race, religion and political beliefs. When the school system first was established it was meant to be portray only the republican way of life and the republican beliefs. I am truly glad that the educational system is a much more liberal place now accepting people of all ethnic and political backgrounds. Because our educational system has developed into this I feel as though this effected the government both for better and for worse. I enjoyed this article and found it to be very informative.

I believe that we must think in many value systems in order to fully understand the needs of students. Diverse ethnic backrounds of immigrants and pre- existing conditions must all be considered for the sake of a community's needs. Whether or not a community is republican or democratic, black or white, is only the isolated conditions of the bigger picture. The merging of opposing elements is only effective if all of the issues of diversity are acknowledged and a compromise can be reached. For example, if two cultures share a neighborhood the schools should do their best to show the positve aspects of their differences as well as their shared characteristics. I believe that we should be as republican as possible when teaching about sexual morality with children and as liberal as possible about cultural heritage.
